Lily Turns ONE!!

As I was putting Lily to bed last night I got a little teary eyed because it hit me at that moment that she was growing up way too fast. I don't know how it happened because it seems like it was only moments ago that we brought her home from the hospital. I kept thinking, "Tomorrow Lily's going to be ONE!" Then it brought me back to the big milestones with each of my kids and I can remember each of their first birthdays like it was yesterday. I remember Braden in South Carolina opening his presents and helping Andy put together his rocking horse. I remember Taylor turning one on our drive across the country from South Carolina to Utah. We stopped at Grandma and Grandpa Miller's house on our way up to Boise and she had a cute bunny cake and sat on my lap as she tried to grab the candle. On Ella's first birthday we took her to the Zoo. She had one of those ginormous chocolate cakes from Costco and ate every last crumb of her piece of cake. All those memories seem not too long ago and now Lily was creating another 'first birthday memory' for me. The day was a pretty routine, since it was a Tuesday, but we did celebrate with some homemade Mexican food and a red velvet cake. Lily didn't really eat the cake. She had just a few bites and then she enjoyed mushing it in her hands until it created a paste that she smeared on everything. I commented to Andy that a red velvet cake probably isn't the best birthday cake for a one year old. There was red everywhere but she was so happy!

Lily isn't walking. I think it will be a good month before she can walk. She is so content with crawling that she has no motivation to try to walk. She is a climber! I haven't ever had a child climb like this at her age. A few weeks ago I went upstairs to grab the phone and when I went back down the stairs there was Lily sitting on the landing. She had never even touched the stairs so I was shocked (and relieved she didn't fall) that she climbed all the way up the stairs! We have a child size table and chair set in the toy room and she loves to climb up on the small chairs and then on the table. She'll sit on the table until I take her down and she starts all over again. She isn't sleeping through the night but she takes 2 really good naps during the day. She will eat anything as long as she can feed herself. She is very independent and reminds me a lot of Taylor. She is a talker. She points and jabbers at everything. She says "Dog" as clear as can be but only says it if there is a dog she can point at. She loves going for rides in the bike trailer and hates (I mean HATES) being in the car. Maybe I should start biking to the grocery store?? Lily is such a happy baby and we love having her in our family!

Happy Birthday Lily! Momma loves you so much!!

I completely understand what you mean about Lily growing up too fast. Mayumi will be in two in a week, and I don't know where all the time has gone. Where did my teeny tiny baby go? I know I will have another baby someday, but Mayumi will never be a baby again. I know there are many things to look forward with her and that it will just get better and better, but it is hard sometimes to know that I can never relive the past two years.
