Ella got braces! She was so excited because she was going to be the first of the kids to have them. Being the 3rd child, you don't always get to be the 1st so I guess it was pretty exciting for her. It quickly wore off the next day when her mouth hurt, she couldn't talk normal, and it was hard to swallow. Funny how the "That's not fair that Ella gets braces and we don't!" from Braden and Taylor quickly changed to "I don't ever want braces!" Ella has a unique situation with her tiny mouth. I've seen a lot of mouths as a dental hygienist and Ella has the smallest mouth I've ever seen. With that has come a lot of complications. Her 1st molars were ectopic and were coming in on top of her baby molars instead of behind them. She almost had to get those pulled since the roots were completely resorbed but we luckily were able to save them. On top of those issues, she has delayed eruption of her teeth. She's almost 2 years behind! We decided it would be best just to have Ella in braces and let Braden and Taylor wait since their will be straightforward and much easier than Ella's situation. She starts will posterior braces, meaning she doesn't have braces on her front teeth, and she has a spring to bring her molars into place since they won't come in. Then she'll get an expander and front braces. She should have them for 12-18 months and then she'll get them again when all her permanent teeth come in. Fun times!
