Carlsbad-Spring Break 2015

After we moved into our house I was feeling motivated to plan a trip. I didn't care where we went or what we did, I just wanted a vacation together after working so hard on the house. While planning and searching a week at our timeshare exchange was available the week of our spring break. So I booked it. I didn't give it another thought until a few weeks before we left. I was so excited about the heat wave that they had been having and was looking forward to a sunny, warm vacation. I kept tabs on the weather and noticed the week leading up to us leaving it was getting colder and colder. I was a little bummed about the 25 degree drop that started the day before we left but we still managed to have a wonderful time just being together. We stopped on our way to spend Easter Weekend with Kim and Jon and their kids at their new house. It's always fun to spend time with cousins. Stephanie and Henry came over and we dyed easter eggs and had an easter egg hunt that Madelyn put together. I'm sure we could've stayed there the whole week and skipped California all together. The kids definitely would've been happy with that plan.

We got into Carlsbad Sunday evening. The next day we went to the Mormon Battalion and Sister Kennedy, the missionary that did our tour, was from Herriman just down the street from us in the other stake. Small world. She was going home the next week and knew all the kids in our ward since they went to high school together. The kids had fun panning for gold and the tour was quite fun too. We watched Meet the Mormons afterward as well. We also we to La Jolla cove to see the sea lions. I wasn't prepared for the smell but the sea lions didn't disappoint. There were tons of them laying on the beach. Lily especially loved the baby ones. We also made a stop at the San Diego Temple. The rest of the trip was spent going to different beaches and ending each day at the resort pool. The beaches weren't very warm but the kids somehow didn't mind. We had a fun, relaxing week which was exactly what we needed.
