The Big Fall...

Yesterday was an eventful day. It started early in the morning with Taylor coming to the side of my bed to tell me the bathroom door was locked (not sure why) so I got out of bed to go unlock it for her. She wanted me to hold her hand so I did and we started down the stairs. I got to the second step and I don't know if she slipped or if I did but the next thing I remember was falling down the flight of stairs. Luckily I fell back and not forward but I still got banged up. Taylor was fine but my left elbow and hip took the fall since I was holding Taylor's hand. My first thought was that my elbow was broken. I had a huge gash from it hitting the baseboard on the stairs and it was bleeding really bad. I tried to call Andy at work for half an hour but he was at the surgery center and had no cell phone reception. Finally one of my calls went through and I was able to let him know what happened. My doctor's office wasn't open for another hour so I called all of my friends in the neighborhood to see if one of them could watch my kids and no one answered their phones. I had Braden get ready for school so I could at least drop him off and only have 2 kids at the doctors with me. On the way to school I tried all of my friends again, no one answered. Andy had a quick half-hour break between surgeries so he met me at my doctor's office to look at my elbow. He said I wouldn't need stitches but brought all sorts of bandages to close it up better. Long story short, I was at the doctor for 2 1/2 hours on monitors and had an ultrasound done to make sure the placenta was still attached. Very fun and eventful with 2 curious girls but the nurses were really nice and helped me out by giving them lots and lots of stickers. The doctor was concerned with one gray area on the ultrasound where the placenta attached and told me I would have to lay flat on my back for the next 24 hours to avoid abruption(?)/detachment of the placenta. {I also have to "take it easy" for the duration of my pregnancy. Don't know quite how to manage that with 3 kids. ;)} I got Taylor and Ella loaded into the car and tried to call my friends and again no one answered. I really couldn't believe it. I can call any of them at any time of the day and they always answer. I was getting close to our house and decided to just go drive by one of my friend's house to see if she was outside with her kids and sure enough she was there. I was so relieved that she was able to take the kids for me. Thanks Tami!! So I've made it past the critical 24 hour point so I hope that means everything will be okay. I am still very sore but grateful the baby is fine. I just can't imagine what the outcome would have been if I fell forward.

When Morag told me about this it reminded me of the day before I was to be induced with Camryn and I fell flat onto my belly off of a razor scooter.....in the middle of our driveway. I know, not my brightest moment even to get ON the stupid thing. I was sooooo banged up and bruised. Cam was luckily fine, but I haven't ever been so scared. So glad you are ok! It's getting close :)

I missed steps in my garage when I was pregnant with my last one and landed on my stomach on the cement - I even blacked out for a second. Scariest moments ... But, thank goodness for good doctors who can see what's going on, and blessings to take care of us! Glad you are ok!
