Lower Hackberry was hands down everyone's favorite hike we've ever done. It was spectacular. We got there in the afternoon and set up a picnic along the creek and had lunch. The weather was perfect and the scenary was breathtaking. After lunch we headed out on our hike. We've decided that if the hike involves water the kids will go for hours. The hike was through water the entire time. It was 2-3" inches deep with a sandy bottom to walk along in the middle. The sides were deeper and the kids had fun seeing the deep spots. We took off our water shoes and just walked barefoot along the trail that wound through these slot canyons. The kids had fun skipping rocks and climbing up on ledges. Lily at one point found a lizard that she thought was dead floating in the water but it was alive. She named it Hecky and carried it for 2 hours. The trail went on forever and I wished we would've gotten there earlier in the day so we would have had more time to explore but we decided if the kids were going to make it back we needed to turn around and head back. The kids loved it so much they wanted to go back the next day but it was quite the drive to get there so we decided we'd find another hike with water that was closer.
