We woke up and got ready to hike to the next village Vernazza. It was a beautiful, somewhat difficult hike that took us 2 1/2 hours to complete. About an hour into it we realized there was no way the kids were going to want to hike back if we made it all the way there and we didn't want to turn around so we used the "keep going and we'll take the train back" approach that worked and we made it! Vernazza is a beautiful town with bright, colorful buildings just like Monterosso. I just love the charm of the towns. They're beautiful! We took a break on the rocks at the end of the dock and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine. It was supposed to be rainy all week and it ended up sunny, warm, absolutely beautiful weather to enjoy the beach, in October, in Northern Italy. We were blessed with perfect weather, no doubt. We walked up to the train station and took our one and only train ride in Italy. We quickly remembered why we avoided the trains on our trip. We paid 26 euros (ouch!) for our 1 mile, 45 second, train ride through a tunnel. And just like that we were back in Monterosso and the kids couldn't have been more thrilled to not have to hike back so I guess it was money well spent.

We went back to the apartment and got ready for our day at the beach! We walked down to the water and quickly learned, the hard way, that there were jellyfish in the water. Taylor got stung, then Lily. We had the same experience in Hawaii so we have great luck with jellyfish. After looking closely we were shocked to see hundreds of jellyfish. We went over to a cove that was a little more protected and the kids got in for a bit until the jellyfish came again. We took a break and Andy and the kids climbed the huge rock in the sea. I noticed the tide changing and waves started coming in and sure enough the jellyfish were gone. We were able to enjoy the later part of the day in the water and the kids had the best time. We headed back to the apartment after sunset and we're one of the last ones on the beach. We all agreed that we can't wait to come back.
