Fire Pit

Man. This one kicked our trash. We usually go into our projects with a plan, an idea of how much it will cost, and an unrealistic time frame, my chicken scratch drawing, and it turns out great. While the fire pit turned out amazing, it's hands down the project that threw us for a loop. (Do I dare say even more than painting the kitchen cabinets? I never thought I'd say that.) It's probably because I was in charge of most of it and with it being my first time being "Project Manager" I learned a lot. Most important being I never want to be in charge of another project again! Wowsers. But it turned out so beautifully and Andy cut each of those stones so perfectly that we couldn't have paid someone to do it the way he did it. He can add masonry perfectionist to his resume. If you look closely at the before and after pictures you can see quite a few changes that you might not notice otherwise. Those 'few' changes (aka me thinking we could move those boulders so we could make it a full circle) are the things that kicked our trash. Sorry Andy. The initial cost projections have been exceeded 10 times, again sorry Andy. And the unrealistic time frame of 1 month quickly turned into 4 months. Again, sorry Andy. But I love it and hopefully soon when we're up to our elbows in the next project all will be forgotten and the bumps of this project will be a far distant memory. That's what I love the most about DIY. You work hard, get through all the bumps, and have something far greater than you ever anticipated and appreciate it because it pushed you more than you ever thought you were capable. The only problem with DIY is with each project I dream bigger and better (aka harder) things for us (aka Andy) to try. Sorry Andy. Thanks Babe for being the best. Seriously, I don't know how you do it but you're aMAZing at everything you've done!
