{Andy taught Stefano and his mother, Carla, on his mission. Andy was able to baptize Stefano (his companion baptized Carla) and we've been in contact with them ever since. When we went to Italy 15+ years ago Stefano and Luisa had their first date with us there in Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet. They ended up getting married.}
It was fun for the kids to meet Stefano and Luisa for the first time. They got the kids Italia hats which the kids loved. Stefano was so nice to buy us tickets to go on the water bus through the main canal in Venice to get us over to Piazza San Marcos. Andy and I had never been on a boat in the canals so it was a fun first for all of us. It was surreal to be there, with our kids, and Stefano and Luisa, in Venice. Maybe it was the jet lag but I just kept thinking it was a dream. Venice is so beautiful. There's not a city in the world like it. The narrow streets, colorful buildings, store windows perfectly showcasing their shop's items, canals and bridges everywhere, and the laundry hanging out the windows makes it feel like you're on a movie set.
The kids learned quickly that in Europe there are no free toilets and finding one is like finding a needle in a haystack. Luckily Stefano was able to find one for Taylor. Then we walked until the kids felt like jello. The jet lag was setting in around 3pm and we needed to go check in to our apartment so we headed out. The plan was to meet up for dinner with Stefano, Luisa, and Carla but we were so exhausted that we decided to go to bed early and meet up with them the next evening. After checking in we were wanting to grab some dinner and go to bed. Another thing we quickly learned was nothing opens until 7pm for dinner. It was 5pm and there was no way we were going to make it. Andy went to the grocery store to grab a few things but by the time he got back the kids were halfway asleep so we turned in for the night.
