Italia 2017-Day 3 Ferrara and Firenze

We woke up and headed out to Ferrara, a medieval city that welcomed Andy to Italy. It was the first area he served in and I'm sure it made him feel a world away. It's very different from any of the other cities we visited. In the center of town it has Este Castle which is a huge castle with drawbridges and a mote around it. They were setting up for a concert so we were able to walk across the drawbridge and see the courtyard. We walked around the streets for a while and it was fun to see how much Andy could remember. It was his first area and he was only there for a month. His companion had a back injury and he said he spent most days inside the apartment while his companion laid flat on his back and Andy studied Italian. It ended up being a huge blessing because Andy was able to learn the language well so early in his mission. Andy was able to find the column that has the flood line recorded on it. He vividly remember a man telling him about it so it was fun to see it and take a picture. We didn't spend too much time there. Just an hour and headed to our next stop, Florence.

We stayed in an apartment in Scandicci which was 10 miles outside of Florence. It was getting dark and we were hoping to go hike to the top of a hill that overlooks the city but when we got there it was closed. We walked over to Ponte Vecchio (The famous bridge that goes across the Arno River) and there was a street musician that attracted quite the crowd. We stopped and  listened to him sing "Stand By Me" before continuing on. The bridge is so beautiful but the nighttime makes it magical.
