Gotta Love Insurance Companies...

If you don't agree that insurance companies are absolutely the most evil thing in the world, you may not want to continue reading. I don't use my blog to vent but I've decided to make an exception because I am so fed up with our insurance. We've had more issues with insurance since we moved back to Utah than we have ever had, EVER! First, we were having every single one of our claims denied for the "well visits" for the kids which was supposed to be covered 100% with a $15 copay. The select health agents were less than helpful in trying to figure out why the claims were denied so I finally figured it out when I realized that Select Health keeps your insurance number on file in EVERY IHC facility computer on accounts that are no longer active. Let me clarify. We had select health when we lived here before (we moved in 2003) and I guess even though I gave the office/facility my new card/id number they saw that there was one in the computer and assumed it was the same number or because there are now 2 numbers attached with our social security numbers/birthdates that the old one got billed. I still don't know. So then it became my problem to figure out why everything was denied. It took me forever because who would've thought that a facility I had never been to would have old insurance numbers in their computer?? Lame. I'll move on. So, I have been going to the doctor now for... months... because that is what you do when you are pregnant, right? Well, they have denied every single bill from my doctor because they said it was a pre-existing condition. What?? I have had insurance since Sept 2007 with them and I certainly haven't been pregnant for over a year and a half (gasp!) so I had to send my insurance all this stuff to prove it! Yeah, if it doesn't make sense, don't worry, it didn't to me either but I did what the lady told me to do and that part is worked out now... hopefully. So today I get the mail and there is the beloved Select Health envelope that I am far too familiar with and open it up to see that effective July 1, 2009 they are doing a Renewal Update (aka-increase your premiums and reduce your coverage) and that our premium will increase by over $100/month and the best part.... they are adding an additional $1500 to my (already EXTREMELY HIGH) maternity deductible. I call them up and ask them if this is for new maternity claims and not "pre-existing" claims that were under the old deductible. She told me that if I have my baby on July 1st or after I would have to pay the additional $1500! That would have been nice to know, right? So, guess what I'll be talking to my doctor about at my next appointment?? Yeah, you guessed it! Looks like we'll be having a June baby because there is no way I am paying this insurance company anymore money than what was originally agreed to when I started my maternity care. I remember telling Andy after having Ella that if we ever had another baby that I wouldn't be induced and let the baby come when it wants. Well, I guess I was wrong... another induction here we come!
