Success!!

Ella started kindergarten reading at a level d which was great.  Unfortunately, she ended kindergarten at the same level and absolutely hated reading.  We spent time everyday over the summer reading and struggled to progress.  She is a great little reader.  It was just frustrating for her if I pushed her to read something a little harder than she was comfortable with.  Right before the school year was going to start I decided to go back to the basics of reading with her so she could gain confidence and figure out what she was struggling with.  She was very upset over it but we made a deal if she finished all 100 lessons that she could pick a prize for all her hard work.  It wasn't easy especially in the beginning.  She cried a lot and my patience was tested on more than one occasion.  These 3-4 page lessons would sometimes take over an hour to accomplish because she wasn't cooperating.  There were many times I just wanted to throw in the towel but I knew it would all be worth it in the end.  I'm happy to say that Ella completed lesson 100 today and read all 400 pages over the past several months.  When she was finished she exclaimed that she loved reading!  Music to my ears!  The prize?  A pillow pet that she wants to snuggle with when she reads!  I'm so proud of her.  Good job Ella!!
