The Shoe on the Other Foot...

Andy has had a hernia that has been giving him trouble so he finally decided he wanted to have surgery to fix it. He was wanting to do it before the end of the year so the day that worked best happened to be our 16th wedding anniversary. Because he decided to do this kind of last minute, he wasn't able to take time off since the schedule was already out. So he worked all day Friday (with the surgeon that was doing his surgery) and after the last patient he changed and became the patient. I waited in the waiting room and was able to see everybody else waiting one by one have the doctor come and give them report on the surgery and then the nurse would come get them. It was a long time and soon I was the only person left. I was starting to think maybe they forgot about me because Andy worked there and they all knew him and were taking care of him? I didn't know what was going on so I was starting to get nervous. It had been about twice as long as they said it would take. Finally, the doctor came. He told me he didn't have 1 or 2 hernias like they had originally thought, but 4 (!) hernias!! I was finally able to go back and talk to Andy and tell him the news. He had a really hard time coming out of anesthesia and kept saying it was so weird to be the patient getting the anesthesia instead of the person giving the anesthesia. It was a rough recovery but he got through it and still went to work on Monday!
